6/5/07
IHR, Gibson County Animal Services, Sheriff Deputies and a Deputy Prosecutor went to
the Gibson County property to serve a search warrant again on 6/2/07.
After speaking with Mr. Stallings, he agreed to sign over to the rescue the remaining
horses on the property (some had been moved off the property). Indiana Horse Rescue had also been in contact with the
property owner and made an agreement to purchase the 80 acres.
We are thrilled to announce that IHR is
opening a Southwest Division. With
the fantastic cooperation of volunteers from all across the state, we
moved 5 of the severely emaciated, pregnant mares to the Frankfort
Division. Several other horses were moved to foster homes, but the
remaining horses will be staying on the property. There is an
enormous amount of work to be done, to transform this property from the
nightmare it has been into a rescue, sanctuary and rehabilitation
facility for horses.
There are many details to
work out and a lot of money to raise to be able to pay for the property,
disinfect, sterilize and kill off parasites on every inch of area
where the horses have been.
The horses must come first
and we are working diligently to get them the care they need.
Already we have purchased corral panels with donations to build
makeshift stalls in the unused portion of the barn for
EVERY PREGNANT
&
EVERY
NURSING MARE!!!!
They are now indoors and under watch 24 hours
per day.
There are an estimated 63
horses on the property plus the 15 that were removed on 5/27/07.
That is 78 horses that need vaccinations, deworming, bathing for lice,
ringworm and a multitude of other obstacles. All this will take
time, we must get them started on their feed very slowly and we can only
use small doses of dewormer as their
systems are full of parasites and we can not kill them off too quickly.
We are working with several veterinarians to see that the horses have
the best chance for survival. We placed an order for the first
batch of medical supplies, as we know the first mare to foal had no milk.
We must prepare for the difficult road ahead since 20 mares are
suspected to be close to delivery.
Donations can be sent to IHR
Main-just mark them for the Gibson County horses or if you would like to
donate towards the purchase of the land, we are needing to raise
approximately $80,000 to fulfill our immediate needs.
We can not do this without
the help of everyone. If you can help with the work, please
contact us - we are still trying to return phone calls and e-mails from
last week - please be patient with us. Trying to spend time in
Frankfort and Owensville has been an enormous adventure. We know
that the people who have been involved in this rescue are not doing it
for gratitude, publicity or self gratification. However, we can
not express how grateful we are to everyone that has helped.
We have heard from many
people across the nation and even into Canada regarding this rescue - it
is enormous! We need your help, we can not do this
alone!! |
