Baby Blue had her surgery and is doing
great! We have kept her here at the rescue for a few more weeks to make
sure she was healing well and on her way to recovery! Kayla won't have to
wait much longer now! She is ready to go home and is leaving to be Kayla's
best friend Sunday, Nov 23rd! We can hardly wait to hear how they
progress! We expect to hear great things!! Many thanks to Kim, Kayla
and everyone who helped make this young lady's dream come true!
Congratulations!!
WOW!
Kim (mom) and Kayla(12 yrs old) knew when I
described Baby Blue that she was the one. Kayla has sacrificed for 2 years
waiting, wondering if her dream would ever come true. Wanting to adopt a
horse that needed a home, they contacted the horse rescue. Kayla will have
to wait until Baby Blue. has her surgery to repair damage from her injury, then it
will be a time of bonding and teaching Baby Blue to trust and to be her best
friend. They will slowly working her to build up her muscles. I
think Blue knows - she has a forever home.
UPDATE! 10/23/03
It still amazes me how horses are so forgiving, or
is it the just know they have been rescued!! These 4 are all so loving and
just adore attention! They are putting weight on very quickly - of course
the others that are on the round bale, hmmm it is 2/3 gone! Even Blue is
putting weight on very quickly. We have now been told that Blue can be a
kicker, oops! I know we are very lucky - walking and standing behind them
when we picked them up! Blue allows us to take care of her injuries on her
back side with no hint of kicking. What do you think?? We think she
knows she will never be abused or neglected again!
Baby Blue is a beautiful pinto mare.
She and 3 others came to us thanks to Liz and the DNR. We didn't realize
the extent of her injuries when we picked her up, but during the light of day we
were horrified!!! To think she has had to endure this for at least 10 days
with no care is just plain CRUEL! We worked on her for some time, cleaning
her up and will continue with daily care. It took over 24 hours before we
could face the facts.
Indiana's laws MUST BE CHANGED!!
We have been told the Indiana State Vet inspected the horses on 10/8, rating one
of the horses a 2 on the Henneke Scale, and stating the horses needed immediate
medical attention. The owners vet came out on 10/15. That is the day
we were contacted that the owner had relinquished the horses to the
rescue. We hate the fact that we could not get them picked up until the
17th, we are so sorry. Sorry that they had to continue suffering for 2 extra
days. They now stand in a small paddock with a brand new round bale of
grass hay and I have even seen them relaxed and laying down to sleep - with the
comfort of a full belly. They have all had their sheaths or udders cleaned,
teeth are floated, they have received the E/W/T vaccination with the injured
ones also receiving the Tetanus Antitoxin for immediate protection.
