Oklahoma (Okie)

There are times that no matter how hard you try, you just don't understand why things happen.  On June 21, 2004 Jill was in route to Purdue to have Okie's eyes checked when her dream turned into a nightmare.  She had not just one but 2 tires blow out, we have all heard stories of trailer accidents, well this one caused Jill to lose her precious Oklahoma.  She got him to Purdue, but his good eye was lacerated and he had a major leg injury.  Okie would be totally blind.  Jill loved him enough to know that the best thing she could do, was to let him cross the rainbow bridge.

He will never be forgotten.

Jill and Okie May 5, 2004

Oklahoma has found his Mama!!  Jill couldn't be happier with this boy.  His personality and riding ability is just what she needed.  We hope to get frequent updates on how both are achieving!

Okie is more than you could ask for.  He was ridden last evening by one of our Purdue volunteers.  She was riding him on her "test ride" with 3 other riders.  This horse is just about as well broke as you could ask for.  He was saddled up and ridden through neighborhood streets in the dark with traffic and many other distractions.  You could not ask for a better horse for a young beginner or an experienced rider.  He walked, trotted,  cantered, hand galloped, stopped,  turned, whatever was asked of him.  Including walking across a 2 lane highway!  This horse had headlights coming at him, behind him, etc.  YES, his adoption donation has been raised.  When we are able to completely evaluate a horse and have such a winner as this, he goes to the top of the scale.

This Appaloosa gelding is everything you could want!  He was rescued from an auction and started back to health.  The rescuer then sent him to our Exotic Division, but they are in the process of moving so he is now here to find his loving home.  Okie (approx 15 yrs) is said to be a trail horse for 12 years and has had an eye injury leaving him sightless in his right eye.  He is still adjusting to that and has issues of trust to get past.  He is very well broke and mannered and will make someone the horse of their dreams.
